Biting Habit

Postby BD99 » Wed Aug 09, 2017 3:03 am

So, I kind of rescued a Baby eastern bluetongue from an overcrowded petstore. She had lost 96% of her tail, was always trying to be in the air and was quite agitated ALL the time. Slowly, I've worked with her and now can handle her for the most part without issue save one. Her biting.

She doesn't bite and snap as I have seen when afraid. Instead, she seems to actively WAIT for you to relax.

She opens her mouth, positions herself then waits until you notice her to chomp down. It is very slow and calculated, in a manner I've NEVER seen another blue tongue act in. It isn't fast. There is no hissing or signs of agitation. Its almost sleepy how she does it.

Has anyone else had to deal with this? If so, how have you trained it out?

Peewee gets handled daily for up to an hour, depending on how she acts. She is around my voice for several hours, allowed to roam the room I'm in to get her exploring out. She is fed every 2nd day now, plus peace offerings when she is polite about things.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but all animals go through teething, if she is still small she is probably teething. I might be wrong, please correct me if i am!!! Just wait till she get bigger and we'll see? :ohyes: :ohyes:

While not exactly the same one of my bubs if i put my finger up to her mouth she will very slowly open it and then slowly get into position and then bite but she never actively goes out to bite me.

Place a food treat into the open mouth .... she'll soon either get to so full she doesn't dare open her mouth because she knows you will deposit even more food in there , or she'll come to associate you with nice things ....

she might also be telling you i'm the boss ....
