So Sonic escaped his enclosure today

So I come home from work exhausted after a day of running around with kids and getting a workout in, I'm trying to wind down an enjoy some pizza cause I was starving. I'm looking at Sonic's enclosure thinking it's a bit strange that he's not wandering his tank as he usually is at that time but I'm like whatever I'll check on him when I'm done. So I continue eating my pizza and as I look at my bed I see some movement by one of the pillows so I focus a little more and I see a head pop out and back under. Now I'm kind of dumbfounded and I'm thinking did I just see that or am I going crazy and I see it again, I run over and sure enough Sonic is just casually hanging out under my pillow, you know, just chillen. So I don't know wheather I should be proud, angry, amazed or what. I scream out to my mom "he was on my bed" she can't believe it because she has just been in there and said she saw him in his enclosure??? Mind blown

I totaly underestimated a bts's climbing ability but never again. I can laugh now since no harm no foul. This also comes a few days after my corn snake escaped his latched tub, luckily I saw him before he got away and now he has C clamps holding the lid sealed. Clearly I have to build these guys their wooden enclosures soon these tubs are not secure anymore. I can tell these are the first of many stories of my animals escapades.

Silly Sonic

Glad no harm done, I've heard so many similar stories. BTs are VERY strong and have been known to even push the lids
off screen top style cages. Even if they are a bit high for them, they'll stand on something and use their tail to support.. Best is PVC type with sliding glass doors (which depending on style may also have to be locked) or something secure you'll make yourself. So happy Sonic's little outing didn't end in disaster, as many escapes so often do. Had it happen with snakes before I went to racks, and they'll end up in some pretty surprising places, often comical when you have guests who would rather look at them in cages....!

Yup in the end just ended up being a funny story but Sonic is surley proving to be the most shall we say "determined" of all my reptiles, he's definitely a handful, the most hyper of all of them. He even just managed to pin himself in the space between my bed and my wall with me sitting right next to him lol, I definitely have to keep a close eye on him but regardless he's an amazing little lizard with lots of quirks...lol...

I came home from a horrible day at work to find Magnus's viv empty once. I'd had him less then a week, and I'd had such a bad day, it was the final straw. I just burst into tears. Calling myself a terrible pet owner, panicking if I didn't find him he'd die, etc.
Then I heard hissing. He'd crawled under a box less than a foot from his viv, and parked his lazy skink butt there. And then had the good grace to announce his presence, so I didn't have to tear the room apart looking for him.
BTS are the worst. He has a lock on his viv now.

Wow yea, I'm glad Sonic decided to show himself before I realized he was gone, I'm planning on building an enclosure for him soon and will definitely be using a lock I'm not trying to come home to anymore surprises

Well it finally happened to me. I've had all kinds of escapes but never a BT. I come home from work on Friday after the worst Murphy's Law of a week I've had in a long time, waiting on a friend to come over for dinner and a few cold ones to erase the week. Start my daily maintenance routine and there I find a vent missing from the back of one of my enclosures and a hole there.....of course, it was one of my prize possessions that I just added to my collection this year for some new bloodlines, and only three months old. He managed to get a hold of the vent and pull it out (all siliconed in permanently now!) After freaking out and nearly losing my mind there I found the little terror under the couch. He is an adventurous little brat, always looking around and making a mess, etc. His punishment was living in a rack tub for a few hours while I fixed the errant vent. And all the rest also. Whew. Anyone using pvc type cages with vents be warned, these little guys are quite intelligent. Make sure they're glued in! I'll send a picture of the little squirt as soon as I'm done being mad as hell at him. I also own his sibling who would not even think of doing such a thing. Just wants to eat and sleep. Hey Ron, are you laughing??? It was the Sunrise x Red.

Persistent little one, isn't he lol. Glad you found him safe and sound, mine is the same way super active, always messing up his enclosure. I let him out a lot to try and have him get rid of some of that energy but he ends up just tiring me out

At present I've got 14, half of them just want to eat and sleep or just stare at me,
the rest can be quite inquisitive at times. Two of them do nothing but pace back and
forth like a monitor lizard scratching at the doors, whether 'in season' or not. They're all
different personalities, just like us. Proves their advanced intelligence.

14 sheesh I thought I had a lot of animals

They're definitely super intelligent and really good at keeping us on the edge of our seat lol.

Indeed. Thank God they all aren't that adventurous, but he's only 3 months, perhaps he will grow out of it. My holdback male from last year's litter did not, he constantly paces. Some of them are just downright lazy!
14 isn't a lot, that's just the skinks! There are 37 all together, not counting the insect pets...and I've cut back a bit!
Very addicting hobby, and like i've said many times, if you carry that 'collector gene', you simply can't have just one of anything.
