BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I was unable to get a terrarium in time for my blueys arrival, so I settled for a large terrarium. I think it's about 18" in height, and I know reaching down scares me skink. I always try to show him my hand before petting or feeding him. He does jump sometimes, will he ever get used to it? I usually sit in the floor and talk to him at eye level through the glass. He seems to respond to me a lot more and comes to see me which makes me very happy.

Should I maybe get a ramp for him to climb? Anyone know how I could build/buy a sort of "second level" on the cooler side of his tank?

A hide box he could climb up on is a great idea. We actually just use cardboard boxes we can throw away when they get dirty, but you could do something more elaborate like a big cork bark round or a wood box with a ramp to the top.
