Infected Skin?

My skink is young, about eight months, he sheds kind of often (three times since I've had him, February) and recently I noticed a bit of 'indentation' on the scales on the left side of his mouth. Today a piece of shed came off of that area and the last time he shed was about three weeks ago! I'm a little worried that the area is infected or will become so. It is not red or oozing, it does not look like an open sore. I did not find any other stuck pieces (I checked his tail and toes, and around his eyes and nose) and the last time he shed I was sure to soak him in warm water to prevent this sort of thing.
I'm just a little worried about my new guy, I've only ever had leos and their shed is very easy to manage, to me anyway. I have not had a lizard that sheds in small pieces or has scales all over their body, I consider the stuff on my geckos more of a skin.
So I'm mostly wondering if there is anything I can put on the area that will prevent or treat infection. Or something to soak him in? I'm scared to use any kind of pet-safe soap or reptile soak because the area is so close to his eyes and mouth.

Any kind of information about this sort of thing will help me out tons, thank you very much!

If the area isn't red or swollen I wouldn't worry too much about it; just keep an eye on it and try to keep it as clean as possible.
You can take a Q-tip and rub a little bit of Vaseline on it if you want, or Emu oil --if you can find it (I order it online if health food stores around me don't have it). I sometimes also use Systane Gel eye drops on areas of my skinks that seem dry; just take care that it's not the kind of eye drops that have redness reducer in it.
