Sick Skink

Postby escuser » Fri Mar 31, 2017 9:17 am

Acquired a skink in rough shape. Need some assistance identifying the cause of the symptoms shown in the photos. Animal was being housed on reptibark with temperatures in the 70s. Currently have him on cloth, basking spot upper 90s, cool end low 80s. Thanks a bunch!

Appears to be Halmahera, obviously being kept too cold and dry. They need very high humidity. I'd get him to a vet before anything. Good luck.

Looks like "mystery illness" due to chronic poor keeping conditions as splashy said. Halmaheras need 80+% humidity to thrive. We've seen it on this forum, search that term and you'll find posts on it. Vet is definitely needed as it needs medical intervention as well as good environment care, your search will give some advice on what's needed. You might need to bump the hot end temp up a bit to 100-105 and provide something like a humid hide. This poor dude is in serious condition and treating will be a big commitment.

All the best and please keep us updated.
