BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

My male northern has been going wild for about a month now. He won't eat and constantly runs around his enclosure, wrecking everything up and dropping plugs left and right. I heard this was normal but how long does it typically last?

I'm a bit concerned over the lack of calcium he's getting because he's not eating. I know during brumation it wouldn't be an issue because he'd be laying still for months but he's running all over the place. Doesn't all this exercise use up his calcium / energy storage?

It's just what they do. I wouldn't worry about calcium if he is an adult. It lasts from four weeks up to two months.
My male is ready but my girls are not, and my Easterns are all males and going insane for five weeks now.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately we're going on 3 months now and he still won't eat. Most I got him to eat in all that time was a small piece of beef. He's still very active and rubbing his nose raw. When should I get concerned?

Try giving him some snails. I accidentally discovered with my blotchies that placing males in a cool environment for a week or so, then reheating them seems to switch off this behavior. I don't know if this would work for Northerns but seems to reset blotchies.

Snails work! Good call, Scott! Those ones in the can marketed for reptiles are never refused! I now buy them by the case.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm in Canada and I haven't seen snails for sale anywhere but I'll keep looking. I'm just concerned because I give my skink his calcium D3 as a supplement rather than with UVB, but since he hasn't eaten in 3 months he hasn't gotten his calcium either... maybe it's time to switch to a lamp?
