Musical Skinks?

Postby GibbsTheSkink » Thu Sep 29, 2016 1:38 pm

We play a lot of music in our house. Like a LOT. My husband comes home and pulls out one of his guitars or a ukulele and plays almost every evening. I play music throughout the day, and my youngest is always singing. She really likes to hold Gibbs and sing him lullabies.

Right now Gibbs is halfway out of his hide napping off and on to Mumford & Sons, and occasionally looking at my computer screen as my desk is next to his tank.

Earlier I put on Pink and he got up and went into his hide. I tested my theory on his love of strings and put on some Lindsey Stirling and he came back out and laid down.

Does anyone have skinks that respond to certain music?

It could also be a coincidence, but he had the same response to my playing music yesterday. ;)

Well, what do you know....
What a fun experiment! Let us know if you continue seeing any trends. :D

My skinks aren't in my general living area, so I'm not sure what they're doing to different music, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all to read that skinks prefer softer strings to louder/rowdier rock.

Not sure about music, but I have noticed Dandy coming out and staring at the TV when it is on.

It's so funny you mention this - my Dukey's tank is next to the computer - I take her out and she likes to wrap around my neck and watch - depending on the SHOW! Loves Grey's Anatomy, Bones, and Modern Family, HATES anything sports (announcers) and news ( a girl after my own heart). Maybe its the female/male voices? She also loves any dance music but doesn't like Depeche Mode.... hmmm :)

He didn't run away from System of a Down. Win! :ohyes:

My husband just put on Andrés Segovia, and then started whistling along... Gibbs' head shot up and hasn't gone back down. When my husband hits higher notes he perks up more and looks towards my husbands desk. And now Gibbs has come halfway out of his hide and almost has his nose smooshed to the glass and is facing the TV (Andrés Segovia is playing on our TV via YouTube).

I will continue subjecting my skink to various types of music and watching his reaction ... for science.

My Northern, Riff-Raff, LOVES Randy Travis. She's so very shy, but she'll scuttle out of her hiding spot or burrow when she hears his voice. It's the funniest thing.
And Gibbs has impeccable taste if he loves System of a Down - more developed taste than my bluey's in any case!
Aiming for a Master's in Herpetology.
1.0 Northern BTS - Riff-Raff
3.0 Leopard Geckos - Snowblind, Supernaut, Frankie
1.0 Bearded Dragon - Mushu

Everytime I play bass or listen to music my skink reptar comes out of his hide and just stares and me and falls asleep too!
