Hello everyone This is my very first post and I hope I am posting in the correct section. I would understand if my post were deleted due to being laid in an inappropriate category. So, tomorrow I will be visiting the White Plains, NY reptile expo. I am going with the expectation of finding a baby Blue Tongue to bring home and take care of. My concern is that, while looking through the vendor list on their website, I could not find any specific Blue Tongue vendors. I'm a tad worried that I will show up and my plans will be thwarted. So I guess my question would be: assuming most of you have been to several events hosting reptiles or specifically blue tongues, should I expect to easily locate a Blue Tongue at this expo tomorrow? Any feedback is incredibly appreciated and solemnly considered, Thank You.

I've been to a few reptile shows including white plains. The only blue tongues I ever see are imported Indonesian species. Very few breeders sell at shows. You're best bet is joining the blue tongue skink keepers page on Facebook. Lots of great breeders post babies on there.

Well, wouldn't ya know it, I found a Northern Blue Tongue about 5 minutes into the expo. Brought home a new buddy, hes a sweetie pie and is already adjusting to his surroundings. He does seem to really enjoy burrowing under some of the newspaper I have in his home at the moment. This is probably normal behavior though, after a stressful day of being transferred home

I think I know who you got it from. Was it Hisham? He was bringing a few babies to sell at his friends table. If you got from him you got a great skink. Good luck with your new buddy!!

Ah! I feel like such a knucklehead, I don't remember their names. I purchased him from a woman and her young son. He looked about 17 and had a cross necklace on. Very nice people, they had two Northern BTS babies to sell and i'm the proud owner of one Thanks for the reply! If you happen to check out the thread again, I did have one question. A bit off topic...but he really enjoys narrowing in the temporary newspaper bedding I've laid out in his home. Is this a sign of him being upset or is he just adjusting to his new home? I'll be getting him some Aspen shavings tomorrow as I've heard they're much better for skinks. Just making sure his behavior is that of a normal, newly-transferred BTS. He deserves to be happy and I owe him the comfort haha. Thanks again

That sounds like Hisham. They do love to burrow. Sometimes it takes them a few weeks to fully settle in. I usually leave new skinks alone for a couple weeks so they adjust. Once he has substrate to burrow in he feel more secure. Don't freak out if he stays burrowed most of the time. That's typical for them.

Awesome! That is an incredible load off my back lol. I'll try to transfer him as gently as possible when I replace his newspaper with aspen. Thanks for all your help!

Is this a sign of him being upset or is he just adjusting to his new home?

The fact that he burrows or uses what he can and has access to to hide himself is a sign that he's a reptile. He might be upset, he might be adjusting, or both, but it may not end because he's adjusted to his new home --he will likely do it all his life. Because, he's a reptile.
