Hello all, I have recently aquirred a rabbit/ guinea pig cage and would like to use it as an outdoor unsupervised enclosure. My bluey will not be in it overnight more for just sunny days. His head cannot fit through the bars and there is a wire lid.
Would this be safe? Should I put something over half for some shade. Should I line it with screening to ensure no escape?
It also came with a paper type bedding shown in pictures, could I use this?

Whenever you put your skinks outside, they must always have access to shady and cooler areas.
I would make absolutely sure he can not push his head through anywhere, whether it be between the top and the sides, or between the slats --including the slats in the wire lid, because i would count on him using the horisontal slats for climbing.

Re: Outdoor enclosure using a rabbit cage?
That would depend entirely on how warm/hot it is in the sun. I wouldn't put my skink in the cage until I've monitored the temps closely to make sure there is a cooler area for him to go to if it gets too hot.
My concern would be, if the sun is beating down on the cage, a hide with the sun beating down on top of it wouldn't offer much of a lower temperature. Like I said, it would depend on the overall ambient temperature in the sun.
Just check it prior to putting, and leaving, your skink in it.
