BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Now that baby season is here for us in the states, many of us will be having or acquiring baby skinks. Its tempting to go out and buy all kinds of cage furnishings, especially if it's your first. Unfortunately, they soon grow out of their 'furniture', and if you don't have other pets to hand it down to, it could be costly. I'm sure many of you have thought of this, but I'm going to share what I have done for my baby snakes. I eat way too much take out, so therefore have many containers! To make hides for the little ones I simply pick a suitable one and cut a hole in it. Being it is plastic, I use it for the cool end hide. When your skink reaches adult size, have a blast and buy him his forever living room set.

Very cool! I guess you could also disguise the plastic with some plants or something too.

I still used a baby sized rock hide for a long time after the skink grew out of it. I just turned it around so the entrance was against the wall. It ended up being almost a second basking rock

Glad I'm not the only one that does this. I also use the lids of pints of ice cream to feed the babies on.

Every time I bring home something in a container I immediately think of its uses for reptiles, tonight I got a great one with holes already in the top, perfect for sending some babies home with friends...hey, no harm in being economical, reptile keeping is by no means a cheap hobby!
