BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Just to keep notes on the upcoming season im going to do another brumation to breeding thread

Just chucked youg 1.3 group of vic alpines into a brumation tub,the nsw southern highlands male has been in there for two days already due to having tiffs with a bluemountains male

All the males penes have swelled already and some start to carry on before cooling

Tub of choice is on the concrete floor of my shed with zero heat

What are the temperatures, and how long do you usually do this? Curious.

Usually 4 to 6 weeks

Normally dur to how cool winter is here they have a big dispause period either side and even if woken early,they wont breed till close to when outdoors ones do,last season i kept a pretty hot spot in cage around the clock and they mated pretty early after shut down,also oddly dropped babies between 70 and 80 days after last mating,duee to using the hot spot alot i guess,small hot spot,rest of cage rather cool still

Darned bluemountains males were niggling today,so popped younger one into brumation tub,few more days to clear tummies and shut down time for the rest me thinks

Do you chuck all of your bubs into tubs or is this only for the younger ones

Babies i typically keep warming through first winter,hoping to get size on so they can go outdoors from first spring on,at moment i have a ton of adults inside to as i need to organise a few outdoor enclosures,to many males already in some cages to risk adding more plus have 4 different types of blotchies to,hoping to have them all set up outdoors come late spring

Richard, how deep do they need the substrate?

Not sure depth really matters,its quite shallow in this tub,usually i add enough so they can get under it easily,some curl up on top anyways

Shut the lowlands and a pr of north of melb cunninghams down today,18th may

Shut the bluemountains down today to,18th may,along with the rugosa asperas and lone rugosa rugosa male,still need to find him a lass,also in there is my adult land mullet and an adult male gidgiee skink and some western blueys

Just for my records,non bluey related add new england and sydney sand stone cunninghams and kingskinks all shut down on 18th of may as well

Just waiting on the northerns to start getting frisky now

Now winter seems to have finally hit heres a more normal temp during brumation

Well, they sure didn't waste no time! When do you expect them to start breeding?

My bubs are only recently starting to brumate how are yours running around breeding already.

Usually a good 4 weeks before males shed and start showing interest,and thats if they feel conditions are warm enough can drag out for a couple of months
