BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hi guys, my name is Janella and I am a new skink owner. I just got at the end of March a young Irian Jaya. We named it Noodles and it is 6 months old. Even though I don't know the sex of my skink, I have been calling it a him to just make things easier. I have him in a 4ft by 2ft by 18 inches enclosure on aspen. I was going to do reptile bedding, but I just didn't like the way it looked. He does have slate tile under his water and food area. There is 3 hides total in his enclosure as well as some fake plants. Before purchasing him I read 2 skink books and your entire website. I have been familiar with them, but I have never owned one till now. I am looking forward to this forum to help me continue to become educated on skinks and there care.

A little bit of background about me is that I am a licensed vet tech and have worked with exotics and reptiles for about 5 years now. I do bearded dragon rescue and do have one of my own. Her name is NaRang. I also am very familiar with the Chinese Water Dragon as well. I love all reptiles but I have to admit my true passion is the beardies and hopefully soon the skink. I also am a professional dog trainer and we have 3 older beagles.

Well, I guess that is about it. I just wanted to introduce myself and I look forward to meeting all of you and gaining all the knowledge I can. Once I figure out how to post pictures I will post some of Noodles. Thank you!

Here is a useful thread telling you how to upload pics. We love to see them, so yes please! You could also post some pics of your Chinese Water Dragon over in the Off Topic forum.

As the Which substrate is best thread suggests, you may find you have trouble keeping high enough levels of humidity while using aspen so have a read, you may instead choose a different substrate better at retaining humidity.

Thank you for the advice on how to upload pictures. I appreciate it. As for the humidity I have a huge water bowl in there and it seems to be doing the trick so far. Thanks again.
