Update on Lucy and Linus

Postby Susann » Tue Apr 12, 2016 7:46 am

I apologize for my life turning so busy at the ...well, I was going to say "at the first of the year", but it really started before the holidays at the end of last year... :(
I know I need to do an update on my females, and I'll try really hard, promise. :)
But, since I already have recent pictures of Lucy and Linus, I thought I'd toss those up here. :D

First, Linus.
I know girls should go first, but since pretty much any Merauke will look pale, dull, and ugly in comparison  , let's do Linus first.

Then, Lucy.
...see what I mean?

Too beautiful! It's looking like I might have to wait til next year to get a bts of my own but when I do I hope I can get one that looks even half as stunning as Lucy.

Coming in with the uncommon opinion that i prefer Linus' more pale orange/red but in the end they both look great.

Thanks guys!
I think each of them is stunning in his/her own way, so I totally see it
Linus is from last year's Xyla x Milo pairing; Lucy is linebred from Rosy and JJ.
The Rosy x JJ pairing resulted in a litter where I had an inexplicably high mortality rate, so to rule out a "fluke", I went with the same pairing again to see what happens... If a number of the babies struggle, I'll know to never pair the two again.
I would've preferred to do a Milo pairing for Xyla again this year, but he, for whatever reason, was too chicken to go for her, so this year I paired Xyla with JJ. Which has resulted in some very good looking babies in the past, so it's all good. :D

Both Linus and Lucy, but especially Lucy, have been pretty slow growers; I'd love to see Lucy start packing food away, would make me much more at ease with her weird conditions... Linus DOES pack it away, but like many of his siblings from years past, seems to never put on much bulk. LONG he is --I should measure him...

Susann, how positive are you of Lucy being a female?

Not positive at all. I see no hints of hemipenes, but otherwise, because of her slow growth, I'm reluctant to try to guess from her physical attributes as I don't think they'll be reliable at all.
Why; do you think you're seeing gender signs?

A little suspicious of that bulge being excess fat storage.. ;-) Just a thought. Hope you don't mind me cropping your photo.
