Where did you get your skink?

I already have one, just curious where other people got there's for "future refrence." I purchased mine December 22 and dear lord, everywhere I looked was out. I finally found a smaller reptile store called 'Snakes at Sunset' to order him and got him by christmas

I was looking at other places in a Google search and all I see are big companies. I hear most people get there's from smaller breeders but Google turned up nothing of the sort. Most places I see treat animals like products and say nothing but BLUE TONGUE SKINK $150 and show a stock photo. I really like seeing each specific animal and knowing its personality, sex, etc. As this industry grows I am seeing less of that.

I got my Northern from Captive Bred Excellence, Donna is great. The classifieds on this site has a list of breeders you can check out and late spring/summer is the time to look for babies.

In December in the northern hemisphere, you will not find a breeder, large or small, who has available babies for sale --you might luck out finding a breeder willing to let go of a skink they previously planned to hang on to, but in those cases, most often the skink(s) won't be cheap.
The large companies with stock photos are dealing with imported animals, as are pet stores 95+% of the time, whether they are mom-and-pop stores or not.

Your best bet is to contact breeders and get on their waiting lists. And it's ALWAYS best if you've made up your mind ahead of time as to what kind you're willing to put down money on (as some charge to go on the waiting list) and how much you're willing to pay. But be realistic. Check around to see what the different species from breeders are going for. And if a breeder quotes you a price, you may want to rethink "Hahaha, that's WAY too much! Good luck with that!" as a response... (Yup. Happened.)

As far as importers of skinks, the only one I really trust is John Kreatsoulas, Omni Reptiles. John is a great guy, and it is a plus he lives just up the road from me. I got all 10 of my Keis from him.

With that being said, I DO NOT recommend buying wild caught. However, if I decide to buy a wild caught, I go to John and his fiancée first. This is just my personal preference and opinion.
