BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Greetings! I am a long time reptile owner/enthusiast and as of today a brand new BTS owner! I had a couple of quick questions that browsing the internet hasn't quite answered:

1. How long does a BTS take to shed? Mine is already shedding and i'm curious how much time I need to give him before I intervene and assist.
2. What kind of skink do I have? Based on it's coloration it appears to be an Indonesian. It's a dark red on the back, with horizontal black stripes, and black legs/feet. Everywhere i've read/researched leads me to believe this is your standard Indonesian BTS: Tiliqua gigas gigas.

If you could post a picture of the skink here we could tell you, but it does sound like a Halmahera type Indonesian.

With proper humidity shedding should not take much more than a day or two max once the scales start letting go. Maybe offer him a humid hide while he's shedding?

How did the shedding go?

It usually takes a few hours from the scales starting to loosen until finished — for me. Between getting dull to finishing sloughing, it usually takes about 4 or 5 days, depending on the skink and its age.

Sounds like a Halmahera — a picture would be needed to verify.
