Enclosure Pictures

My custom built enclosure for my Merauke, Spyro! It’s a 48x24x24 enclosure, i used oak and birch boards and then coated in waterbased polycrylic for waterproofing. I am new to BTS husbandry so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Meraukes definitely like it humid and wet! I have an Irian Jaya that also appreciates humidity and that log hide molded for me in the first month! Also, I have noticed it makes a big difference having a stone for them to crawl on and bask, it helps with their nails and will hold on to some heat for belly warming which just sounds lovely.

Here is the current set up for my skink! It is 48inx18inx20in. Its been a few months now so I was going to change out the substrate and I ordered another fake plant to go in the tank. But hopefully this is good for a basic tank. I was using the big wood piece as a basking spot but I think I need to get something flatter/bigger. And something stone to file his claws down cause those are sharp lol. He seems to like his tank though!

I switched it up! It has been a few months since I got my skink so I thought it was time for a tank change. I added a lot more green. I hope he likes it. He immediately put his hands in the water and started smearing dirt all over the freshly cleaned walls. Gotta love him!

I am getting my first baby northern blue tongue skink pet from splashy hopefully towards the end of May or sometime in June. But I have just set up everything and felt like sharing my future skink's enclosure hehe.

I'm about to purchase a blue tongue for the first time. I've wanted one since I was a little girl (so i'm super excited). I found a guy who designs bio-active terrarium set-ups. They look incredible, and I got a bit excited and reached out. Would a blue tongue like something like this (with more focus on the ground covering - and in a longer tank 90x45x45)? Or is it a waste of money?

From what I know about blue tongues and bioactive is that it's hard to keep the plants alive with them. They like to dig, tunnel, and bury themselves everywhere they can, and in doing so they uproot the plants constantly. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'm saying it's very difficult and probably more time consuming than it's worth for someone starting out. Unless you're very familiar with bioactive enclosures and really good at keeping abused plants alive, I'd say it isn't worth it to pay someone else to make a bioactive enclosure for a blue tongue skink. It would be a lot cheaper to do it yourself and start off with a few plants, see how often they're uprooted or die off, and then go from there.

Noodle got a new Kages PVC enclosure upgrade! The humidity keeping in it is miles better than I expected it to be so he's back in his old enclosure temporarily until the substrate dries out some more. But I'm proud of the work i put into this!
