Hello again everyone! I've had Dandy boy here since October - he is my first BTS and such a cutie. He is generally well-behaved and curious. Whenever I put my hand in the tank he is usually initially apprehensive but once I start petting his chin he usually warms up pretty quick, and he is very eager to explore when I let him outside of the tank (although I often have to intercept his exploration to prevent him from sneaking under the couch or into some other potential vortex from which he might never return). I did notice however that he often paws or rubs his nose on the glass. He does it most frequently right after I put him back after letting him wander outside the tank. A lot of times he will actually be pawing from the outside to get inside the tank, and then once I take him out, he will paw at it again from the other side. Anyway, these past few weeks I've noticed he has taken his escape tactics to the next level and has actually managed to climb up the glass walls of the tank...
This picture isn't even the worst of it - one time he make it all the way up to the top so his tongue could touch the screen. This behavior (the glass climbing) really only started after I got back from vacation after being away 5 days. I had a friend come by and mist him, change his water, and feed him while I was away but she didn't pick him up so it could be that he just got too antsy from being cooped up with such little interaction. I also noticed he usually does this when I first get home or after I've put him back in the tank - on days when I'm home all day he will usually hide under his log and poke his head out and watch me, and do the occassional lap around the tank and that's about it. Is he lonely? Do skinks even get lonely? Do you think there is something wrong with his enclosure? The weather has been really dry here, but I've managed to combat it with cypress mulch, regular misting, and covering up half of the tank to keep the humidity at least above 40. Temperature in the middle of the tank is in the upper 80s, and he seems to divide his time pretty evenly between both sides which I think is a good sign.

Re: Plotting his escape?
He is trying to escape that big T-rex trying to eat him.
It's something skinks sometimes just do, mine do it even though they have perfect temperatures, hiding spots, water, food etc.
He also might be trying to escape to look for a lady.

My merauke boy was extremely antsy so much so that I had to put locks on the screen. Before I went away in December I brought him to my friends breeding facility at which there were females....he immediately jumped on one! Could possibly be yours is also 'in season'. They get extremely restless then. Sometimes refuse food at this time also, but he did not. (not EVER!).

Re: Plotting his escape?
He may well have ladies on his mind; he might be needing a few more places to hide. Sometimes, when skinks are incessantly climbing the walls of the tank, they're trying to find a better, more secure, place. Sometimes there's really no explaining it; they'll climb to get out, they'll climb to get in, no matter what you do.
