What is your favorite dog food brand?

I've been feeding my skink a homemmade blend of prepared reptile diets, pureed meat and veggies, and chopped fruits and veggies, but I'm wanting to add dog food as part of his diet. So I was just wondering what brands/flavors you guys prefer to use? Obviously I'm going to choose something high quality and grain free. Are really high quality dry foods ok too or just wet food?

Thanks!

I've been feeding my 6 skinks Halo's Spot's Stew. Various flavors. They seem to like it. I get it thorugh Amazon's Subscription service at 15% off so it's not bad of a deal.

There are a lot of threads on this subject, if you search you'll find some. (You'll also find a lot on grain vs grain free, but that's something you can make your own mind up on) I've seen a few people around here use blue buffalo or wellness, but I can't get either of those brands. Instead I use pedigree loaf and switch it up with caesar now and again.

Since I joined this forum, I've changed foods so many times and the better quality food I buy the less they like it. They loved the Cesar sirloin flavor, I could mix anything in there as far as vegetables and greens and they'd still eat it. Fearing it was not nutritionally complete, I kept changing to higher quality brands much to the dismay of my skinks. I'm going back to what they like. They are all healthy happy adults and were raised on it. Of course they are spoiled to heck and get lots of treats such as chicken, Dubias and superworms, and dry dog food too that I sometimes soak and mix with their food. I find winter not to be a good time to experiment with foods, especially with northerns. My Eastern even eats mixed vegetables that I buy frozen and always have around for myself. Green squash is a favorite of his, all by itself he will eat it. I would say just use good judgement and see what's their favorite, and supplement if you feel it's incomplete nutritionally. Variety is fun for all.

I can personally recommend Blue Buffalo Wilderness small breed. It's a high quality, grain-free canned variety that has served me well so far.

Yeah, I would recommend using the search function, for both your questions actually; you'll find lots of information and suggestions for both what brands people like and the dry vs. wet question.

In short, I as well like Blue Buffalo and Wellness, I've tried Instinct, as well as lots of other brands from time to time --I like to try new things, both to see if I find something better and to give my skinks variety.

Most skinks will prefer the canned wet food, but lots of keepers are trying and having good success so far with dry, either cat food or dog food --the cat varieties are usually a bit smaller and sometimes a bit softer pieces, which can be easier; sometimes it has a more enticing scent as well. With cat food vs. dog food you run into the issue of whether you feel OK with the added taurine in cat food. Personally, I feel that enough keepers have been feeding cat food for years without any issues, so I'm not as leery of it as I used to be. (If you do a search on that as well, you'll see that the consensus used to be that, since there were no studies on the effects of the added taurine on reptile, it was best to avoid it. You'll have to make a judgement call on that yourself.)
