I'm ready for some babies!

Postby Dakota » Sun Dec 06, 2015 7:46 pm

It was given to me from my Heloderma trainer. Due to the King cobra escaping out of a dry rotted melamine cage in Orlando, melamine caging is now illegal to use for venomous and conditional species (in Florida). He needed it out ASAP, along with other awesome cages, so he gave them to me to get them out of his hair. Shame he had to get rid of some good caging, but I can't say I'm complaining!

It has 39 tubs in it. Not sure of the exact quart, but the rack itself is taller than me (5' 9").

I have cleaned and disinfected all the tubs thoroughly, so they can now hold baby skinks.

Xaunder is looking heavily gravid (99 days since first mating), but I'm not sure about Virginia. She also looks pregnant, but we all know how notorious she is for that. It has been 108 for Virginia.

Virginia has been super glued to the basking area as of lately, so maybe she will make me a fool. I would not mind being made a fool with an awesome batch of baby Meraukes!

Both of their breathing patterns are heavy as of late. Moreso with Xaunder. If I were to guess, Xaunder will give at 150 days like last year, and Virginia will give at 200 days.

As for the Halmaheras, Maxx is still on loan. He is just now starting to mount the female. I am getting him back in January, and will try after QT. I know my chances of breeding the Halms are very low now, but it is worth a shot. Just means my females will be well conditioned to breed in the 2016 breeding season if they don't take when he gets back.

Thanks for viewing. I can't wait to fill it up with babies. Trying not to count my chickens before they hatch, though!

Very nice, and good timing too, from the sounds of things your skink count could sky rocket in the new year.

What are you using/planing on using for heat? I've been considering racks myself as a future possibility, and am interested to hear what works for people using them. I've seen some good posts on the subject floating around here, but since you have this nice new setup, I thought it would be interesting to hear your plans for it.

It has heat tape all through the back of it. I need to get a thermostat for it, though.
