Dakota, what good is setting the northerns up in a QT room, if youre chucking them in with your meraukes to try to work out gender? I know you havent been keeping reptiles long, but proper quarantine procedures are a big deal. Any new animal thats brought into the house should be kept as separate as possible from the rest of the collection for at least 30 days, but longer is better. The best advice is to go into every situation with a new animal assuming that it has mites, and ebola Keep it as far from any other reptiles as possible, wash your hands between doing anything with the new animal and your current collection. I treat the qt enclosures for mites as a preventative measure, i keep dewormer and broad spectrum antibiotics on hand in case of issues, monitor feeding, shedding, and defecating closely. I do my best to keep everything quarantined for 65 days, and the qt time starts over again if another new animal enters the room at any point in the process. Ive had reptiles in qt as long as a year at one point because new animals were being added to the room. I know it sounds boring and tedious, but its vital to ensuring that you dont lose more animals. Throwing them all together runs the risk of spreading parasites like mites, or potential illness, such as bacterial respiratory infections. I know you just had issue early this year with a halmahera spreading whatever illness it was carrying to your existing collection. Not to mention the risk of ending up with a litter of hyrbid babies had they chosen to breed. Thats the last thing this community needs.
