Introducing Thuli

As some of you may have read, J_Couvy and I traded our skinks last month and I thought I'd give an update on Trevor AKA Bohdi AKA Smaug, and now called Thuli

She is much grumpier than Scatha and is quick to go into a defensive posture and she is also constantly tasting the air and mouthing things but so far no outward aggression and certainly nothing like her sire, the infamous "Jenga"

I actually brought her out at my nieces birthday party and showed her around and let the kids pet the bottom half of her

P.S. I'm calling Thuli a "she" as I'm pretty sure she passed an ovum yesterday

So it turns out Thuli's a girl huh? Interesting. I had a sneaky suspicion she was female but, not being an expert on blue tongues I was never sure. Good to know she is doing well (even if she still is a bit of a brat ). I like the new name to; it's sounds better then Smaug, knowing now that she is a female. Would you be willing to post some pics of her enclosure? I am curious to see what her new setup looks like (I'm sure it's awesome of course; the enclosure I had her in was quite boring ). Just out of curiosity, what does passing an ovum mean/look like?

I've got Thuli in Princess's old 48x20 tank and I wouldn't consider it elaborate - I use to have a few more fake plants and a skull but Thuli likes to trash her cage

The repti bark is about 3 inches deep and her humid hide is at the opposite end of her basking spot under the coconut bark

An ovum is a an unfertized egg, they are also called "slugs" and gavid skinks sometimes pass them when they give birth but the one Thuli passed was dehydrated and a bit grainy looking as it was probably an old one that was in the process be being re-absorbed

To me she looks a little bloated and I wonder if there are more in there

She sure is a beauty any plans on breeding her in the future? good to hear she is a bit less snappy.

I actually was thinking of breeding skinks and one of the reasons I offered to do a trade with J_Couvy

While I personally don't have a problem with hybrids, I know purebreds will sell better and there are enough Northerns around that it shouldn't be too hard to find a male - preferably a caramel or a lighter coloured one as the pink, gold and mahogany tones that Thuli has are just GORGEOUS and cannot really be captured by the cruddy camera on my iPod and I'd like to preserve Mel and Andrew and James's work on the morph
