Another Northern for me!

Postby splashy07 » Tue Jun 16, 2015 7:28 am

Good day all, just could not contain my excitement anymore...over the weekend a friend of mine called me and decided she was 'tired of her skink' (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and would like to know if I wanted...
Well, out of spare cages and space off to Target I ran and got one of those big storage tubs and converted into an enclosure for one of my smaller ones that could use the extra humidity provided by such an enclosure. Turns out he is happier in there anyway!
New 'baby' (just shy of a year, one of Captive Bred Excellence's last summer babies) is huge! Confirmed male by presence of plugs observed a month or so ago. He looked normal patterned as a baby but has changed to a very light silvery whitish color that was getting lighter with each shed. I told her a few months back when this transformation started I wanted him, and hey, just have to love friends that tire of things....I knew she would as soon as she got her chameleon, those are her favorite. Glad I kept a photo album of him, and unfortunately I am unable to post pictures. I can email to anyone who wants to see. He is the most beautiful Northern I have ever seen. Just couldn't hold it in any longer, sorry for the long story. Gotta get back to work!

I will do when I get home from work. I would really like to show him off! I'll include baby pics too, so you can see the changes. That's three Northerns now! Formerly just a keeper of the Indonesian types, I just can't say I have a favorite anymore! Currently a Merauke and two Halmaheras, and a while back a classic Indonesian before the two mentioned were even available. I don't know what it is about BTs, but I have never felt such strong attachments to any other reptiles I have kept.

Can't wait to see pics. I got two last year from captive bred and a adult female off Craigslist that will be turning 4 this July that was produced by Donna. One was born 6/20/14 from M1 male and F3 female and the other 6/27/14 from M1 male and F6 female.

This one produced by Donna also. Hopefully his mate, my Cilla, also from CL turning 4 this year produced by James Wilson! I sent some pics to Susann last night, said she'd post for me. Not the best pictures as I no longer have the patience for my vintage 35mm's that I used to mess around with, got lazy and just use phone.

Donna is her name at CBE, correct? That's who my friend told me she was corresponding with when buying her skink, I believe. Who remembers, it was a year ago! I have to ask her if she kept any paperwork, as I have copies of all communication documents pertaining to Cilla from James (previous owner was kind enough to send them to me.) This skink thing just has to stop! LOL!!!!!!!!! (yeah, right)

Yep her name is Donna. When I got my adult female of Craigslist last year the original owner said she got her from a breeder in Las Vegas. I contacted Donna with the owners name and age of the skink. After a little digging she found out it was produced by her. She'll be 4 on July 5th.

Sure, of course you may! I probably sent some of the same ones to Susann. I don't mind if I see him all over the place, I miss him while I'm at work! Seriously though, isn't he a dream??? Last year I got my now 4 yr. old from craigslist, and my friend just HAD to go and get herself a northern....and I knew she'd get tired of it, so the wait began....
I am in total awe of him, have to keep looking in his tank to make sure he is mine!

Heres a few of the ones you sent me. I just LOVE that skink! Do you know by any remote chance what parents at CBE produced this one? Do you have any baby pictures of him?

I remember there was a girl named Jenny, or something similar, on Facebook that got a Northern from CBE that turned white like this one. Nice looking. It is whiter than most "White Northerns" going around. :-)

Yeah, they seem to produce a few that end up like this every year. Reminds me of Aggie :(

I will try to get info on parents, and I sent baby pics to Susann. Let me see if I have any on my phone, and I'll send you some now. Baby looks like a normal patterned Northern!

I am so sorry! You happened to send the pictures during my busy week out of town, and I wasn't checking my email. :(

Let's see if I get the ones that Diana hasn't already posted right...

Oh, Susann, thank you so much! Hey, we are all busy this time of year! My silk moth rearing is a 24/7 full time job right now, wish I could take a month off work! You should see the way the blue tongues look at me when I have one of THOSE caterpillars out! Currently working with hyalophora cecropia and callosamia promethea. The BTs just lick their lips and dream....oh if she'd just give me ONE.....
Have a good day, all, and hope you like my skinks!
