Received my new BTS in the mail!

Postby artgecko » Thu Jun 04, 2015 6:16 am

On Tuesday, I received my first BTS in the mail from KevinW. He arrived in great shape (although there was much huffing when I opened the box). I am leaving him alone to settle in, but was able to take a pic while changing water. He is quite curious and instead of darting into his hide, just sat there and watched everything I did.

After being around this character for a few days, I can easily see how you guys get hooked on skinks. I'm already thinking that I'd like to get a baby to raise up, but that will have to wait. He is much more interactive than my snakes and I like him quite a bit.

He's gorgeous! Congratulations! Looks like a big one, enjoy him. And yes, they are VERY addicting!! Their curiosity and silly antics never cease to amaze me. If I had the space I'd have more than my current collection of 5.

Congratulations!
If he seems calm when you're around and reaching into the tank, he should be fine to handle. Nothing wrong with just leaving him be for a while to de-stress from shipping, but adults that are used to being handled really shouldn't need a ton of time.

Have fun getting to know each other! Looks like a cool Merauke :)

Thanks!
I was planning on giving him at least a week to adjust and I'm hoping to get him to eat from my hand before trying to pick him up. He does seem to be eating, basking, etc. like he should. I can't wait to start handling him.. I'm hoping there isn't too much peeing / pooping on me though lol. I don't *think* he has gone in his tub yet..but it's hard to tell with the dark bedding. His hot spot is temping at 105f, so that should be good enough for digestion.

I doubt there'll be any peeing/pooping if you pick him up and hold him right.
Here's a tread with some pictures:

Really Susann? Please do not let your guard down artgecko. I rarely if EVER would question Susann's expertise and knowledge of the BTS. I would keep an eye on your BTS closely for the butt up move he or she may try on you. Toad has had his laughs with me several times. He has urinated on me several times since I have had him and I am telling you... he did it on purpose! lol One time he urinated on my shoulder and these little buggers have a lot of fluids in them. =0)
