BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hi, all!

I'm looking to put together a variety of freezer meals for my bluey, and I'd like some feedback from you guys. The husband and I are doing a big shop to make a bunch of freezer crockpot meals for our own dinners, so I figured I'd do the same for my scaly baby while I'm at it!

I've read on the diet chart that arugula, beet greens, collard greens, turnip greens, and mustard greens are best, but my Nyeli is a picky one. I usually just feed him whatever greens we humans have got in the fridge, and I use ground turkey as a base meat, adding a garnish of whatever seasonal fruit we've got lying around.

Nyeli's diet is getting a little boring, and I want to shake it up a bit. What greens does YOUR bluey like best? Any freezer meal recipes--or recipes, at all--that you'd care to share? Would love to hear from you!

well all the greens may taste not good for bluey,one way to make them eat green is chop the green into small bits and mix them with things they cant say no,like beef,or snail.that's what I do.

None of my bluies like greens, i mix it in with the other food so they don't really get a option if they are going to eat it or not.

Blah greens icky. You mean the stuff blueys accidentally eat when they are trying to get the meat :-)

I have to concur, the only way I am every successful is by cutting it up fine and them eating it by accident as it goes in with a mouthful of something else lol

Same here, I put collards in a food processor chop them up real fine and add to meat, otherwise they won't even look at anything green! Some premium dog food mixes already contain vegetable matter, I find they like these a bit better than
what I mix myself, but like to experiment.

So im dicing up some veggies now to make and freeze some portions of Bluie food, with silverbeet and celery they would only eat the stalk part not the leafy part right?

Ok got around to finally making a long term food mix for my Bluies, i usually just go week to week so this way is cheaper, wastes no food and is easier.
Pedigree 5 meats dog food, 1.2L cost $1.80 - $3 at Coles.
1 bunch of celery, cost $0.90 - $3 at Coles.
1 bunch of silverbeet, $0.90 - $2.00.
1 giant cucumber, $0.90 - $2.00.
1 Green capsicum - $1 - $2.
Cost me roughly $5-10 depending if sale or not, roughly 2.5-3KG of food so will last a long time seeing only have 3 young bluies.

Best thing I have read today. Oddly enough, Virginia tried to eat grass when I took her outside the other day. Not sure if she smelt a mouse or something, but she was sure trying to pick at it.

For some reason, Titus loves peas. If I put a pea in with his meat, he will eat the pea first. He hates all other veg though.

My mix consists of dog food or cat food (i change variety each time the can runs out) plus chopped bok choy, broccoli, butternut, watercress and of course whole peas.

Mine does too, he picks the peas out of the dog food with vegs already mixed in first, then eats it all.
Anything else green? Not a chance!

My northerns don't really care for peas that much but love chopped up snow pea pods. They aren't big fans of greens either but don't seem to mind fresh dandelion greens. I tried freezing them once because I was sick of throwing out most of the bunch each week (heck, I don't like them!) but they totally turned up their nose at the whole plate of food when I tried using them! Another thing I discovered they really like this winter is Mazuri insectivore diet pellets-- I soak some in water then mix it into their dog food for variety.
