Whistle sound when breathing.

The last couple of days my little Blotchie has started to have a whistle when he breaths sometimes, it's not every time he breathes and it doesn't sound wet from what i can tell, there is no discharge or anything coming from anywhere.
The breeder kept him outside so he hasn't really been kept in substrate could that be it? i was thinking should i take out the substrate give the enclosure a good cleaning to make sure no substrate dust and see if it still whistles after that?

Do some reading/research here and you will find the noise is normal.

Yeah i did read around and saw it mentioned a few times that it is normal, but when it comes to my Bluies health im still going to quadruple check and ask, and for all i know understanding of the whistle could have changed recently to be linked to some health issue or something like that.

if outdoors kept before hand it must have had substrate.probably natural ground of where the breeder lives

blotchies are the mother of all resistant to respitory issues,they can get them,but they arent susceptable like for instance easterns are

could just be getting used to dry substrate,could also be a response to u being around as well,as they can be huffy young blotchies,i guess just keep watching ut to be sure but im pretty confident it wont be an ri

Yeah i remember you or Scott or somebody mentioning its harder for them to get respiratory infections and whatnot, I'm pretty sure now that it has to him being around me i just tested taking him out and he whistled a couple times as soon as i took him, couple huffs which is normal for him but this time he tried to take a couple little nips at me.
Just wanted to be sure, id rather worry over nothing than not worry over something.

There's a saying for statements like this: Don't fix what ain't broke. Since you've admitted to reading about the common whistling noise skinks make and you also admit that there are no signs of discharge from the nostrils; then you can only conclude that your skink is healthy.

Yes and there is absolutely no harm in me asking to just make sure, from my understanding thats the whole point of this site/forum, and as i said knowledge and understanding changes each day for all i know whistling could have been linked to something harmful recently.

And that's the thing that bugs me about most forums. There are so many redundant topics, I don't feel the need to ask questions. I just read the responses and add that to my knowledge. That is why I haven't had a need to ask anything here in a LONG time. Plus, Northern are just too darn easy to maintain.

jdheff1982 - the original post was relating to a blotchy and as you don't have a blotchy I fail to see why you even responded to the topic, especially in such a condescending manner. There are a lot of new members currently so more basic topics are likely to arise, if you are not interested in the topic and don't have anything to contribute, then simply don't respond.

its always good to ask questions if u have concerns,no matter how commonly something is asked,not all circumstances are the same,in this case its assumed its just normal behaviour,and probably is but its not always the case,we cant see the animal in person and can only go off info given out

end of the day no one should really feel scared to ask any questions,we all start off at some stage and have probably asked similar questions in our time

If you've read up on whistling sound when breathing, you've probably seen my responses that it's likely a bit of keratin build-up inside the nostril(s). Some skinks seem more susceptible than others to this; I have one that almost always whistles, it comes and goes, sometimes it's more noticeable, sometimes it's less.

Nothing wrong with checking to make sure. As long as you've done some research I have no problem with adding my redundant 5 cents.
