BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hi Guys

New user, so apologies if this message isnt standard. I reviewed the factsheet before posting, but was unable to find anything regarding what temperature the enclosure should be year round. Does anyone alter their thermostat monthly? Quarterly? etc to match the seasons? Or do you follow the factsheets guide year round? FYI I am located in VIC, Australia and have a Hyper-Melanistic Eastern Blue Tongue Lizard and a very light Northern/wth POS HET for albino due to colouring.

Any advice on year-round temperature control would be great thanks =)

As far as I'm aware these are northern nsw forms so keep with heating until at least May if not in s heated room. Also depends s little on stage of growth, if s baby keep heated as per summer, just provide with a temp gradient of 20-38C. If adult can be kept at up heated room temp, warm once s month at least to get them to drink. If in doubt give them the heating option.

i leve mine with same heat lamps;thermostat settings yadda yadda year round,im in melb,i use big temp gradients so when outside weather starts dropping,my cool end temps follow suit and temperate form animals often head to cool end and shut down ,go off food ect ect due to the low ambients,i normally switch heating off in june for 4 to 6 weeks,but due to the low ambients they have a dispause period either side of full shut doen where they arent doing much as well

my northerns get day heat year round but no night heat for older ones,they slow down a bit over winter,go off food,but middle of winter is when they usually breed,last season a couple started at start of june for some reason

in short it depends on what conditions u have around your cages and manipulating temps yo suit if you want to keep them active

Thanks so much for the help guys. I will continue heating then and let the outside temperature reduce the cool end of my enclosure naturally (seems to be the consensus across the responses). Do you provide any heat source at all in the 4-6 weeks you turn the heating off? Or do they just dig into the substrate and have a sleep?

Richard, not one of yours sorry. I swapped it with a breeder who had some from albino and northern parents I think. Lost a fair bit of money in the trade (swapped him a hyper-melanistic for it), but the melanistic was aggressive and Im not in it for money. Just wanted my other melanistic to be safe/happy.
