What type of BT is he? If the substrate is damp a Northern will not be particularly happy on it, and won't do him much good, either.

My northern absolutely despises Eco Earth, but I did notice he hated it a little less after it dried out.

I just changed mine out and it came out perfect but I soaked it the day before instead of drenching it the day of and then using it. The first time I used it I put a lot of water in it and I was probably being impatient too as I wanted it ready ASAP. This time I put barely enough water in it and just let it sit over night, I let it sit for a an hour and then broke some of it off and then left it alone. By putting less water and then just letting it sit it come out just damp enough without feeling almost like mud the first time I used it, which also made it cold in the tank initially. I also love moss and the indo species need higher humidity anyways so I have a whole layer of moss on top and it kind of looks like soil with grass on top and my BT seems pretty happy as he burrow in between the two layers almost swimming in the moss at times where he can have his body covered but still have his head out and see what is going on.
