What's your diets?

Postby Freedom21 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 6:19 pm

Hi there!

I'm new to the site, but not to reptiles. I have been thinking about getting a BTS but wanted to talk to you guys first, as I have some questions.
~What is the easiest meal you guys make for them?
~WHat are my options for their "meat" source? I read they eat dog/cat food, and other prepared foods like alligator chow.
~and any tips on their diets wilds be great, as I rather talk to people who own them and have experience.

thanks :)

My Bluies main stable is Dog food and in it a mix in finely diced Cucumber, broccoli, green capsicum, celery and bok choy, usually cost maybe $10 and it lasts for a month or 2.
As treats i give snails, mealworms, and raw egg, about to try to give him some rockmelon(Cantaloupe).

Best way to find out about diet is http://bluetongueskinks.net/foodchart.html look for stuff that is easy to get and nutritional but won't break the bank each month.

I have 5 northerns I feed mostly HQ dog food. I use merrick and blue buffalo. I give them eggs and snails once and a while as a treat. It's a nice simple diet. I know a lot of people have their own diets that they like to use. I don't add any veggies since its in the dog food already. I got into blue tongues for the ease of their care and their diet. Basically you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Provided they get everything they need.

I prepare a mixture of raw ground lean turkey, boiled or raw egg, greens, different types of squash and other veggies, a little bit of fruit and calcium powder. I refrigerate the mixture and feed a spoonful or so of it when necessary. It usually lasts me a couple weeks depending how often I feed it and how much I make. My BTS loves it and I try to vary the ingingredients each time. She also occasionally gets bugs and chicken hearts, which she loves too.

This is a good thread to read:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=20387

The easiest is dog food.
Most well-rounded AND easy is prepping and freezing like explained in the thread.
