So im a bit worried about my little blue tongue his behaviour is a bit odd at first i thought it may be from adjusting but i have had him for about 8 weeks now and his behaviour hasn't changed much, i never see him bask except maybe once or twice and he is rarely in the hot end of his enclosure, the basking spot temperature is 38-40C / 100=104F and the cold end is 29-31C / 84-87.8F, i know the cold end should be a bit colder then that but that is room temperature here not from any heating.
He constantly hides and is rarely outside of his hidey holes and when he is it is rarely for a long time, maybe 5-15 minutes, a lot of the time he is skitterish to me if i go to open the enclosure if he is near the doors and runs and hides, he never puffs or huffs though and when i take him out of the enclosure he rarely explores, he just sits there, he will sit still and not move a CM for about 2 or 3 hours at a time.
He pees and poops regularly ( a fair few times on me especially at first) he has constant water and is fed everyday, i took a few pictures of him and his home.
Here is his enclosure, to the right is the basking spto with is the paver/tile, there is a little hole between that and the rock which he sometimes like to stay in to absorb the heat from the paver/rock i imagine.
Log hid hole on the middle, water bowl to the right and a little bowl with some food, and in the distance on the driftwood hide which is generally what he sleeps under burried he is sitting there, thats the closest i ever see him bask at.
Closer picture of him sitting there.

Re: Weird Behaviour
Out of the 6 months I've had my girl, I'll maybe only see her out and about 2 times a week. Not so abnormal, so long as you know the temps are all good, and that your skink is digesting properly.
As for the not moving whilst out thing, I've heard and have seen that this is actually a fear response? Not moving in hopes you, the 'predator', won't see him.

Re: Weird Behaviour
I don't think its a fear response, because i place him on my bed and then will go do something and he is still in the same spot, i think if it was out of fear he would hide when i leave or something like that, theres also no change in breathing as if he is scarred and he doesn't huff or puff or open his mouth or any of the other things that would indicate fear.

Re: Weird Behaviour
It probably feels warm enough without having to bask. surely around 30C isn't from indoor heating, it is a function of your heating + your viv heating. Suggestion - try using a smaller spotlight globe for your basking spot. This will reduce the ambient heating. A smaller focused beam will help with a temp gradient.
If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. M. Andretti

Re: Weird Behaviour
No 30C is average temperature for my house during the day, i just checked because i have 4 thermometers in my house(1 in enclsoure, 1 on my bookcase, 1 in kitchen and one outside next to back door) and they all reed 28-30C, and i use no indoor heating only cooling on hot days so it has nothing to do with my basking spot heating either.
