"Quasi" the Premature Northern

Some of you may remember "Quasi" the Northern BTS that was born here July 4, 2014. It was premature at just 6 grams (!) - about 1/5 to 1/4 normal birth weight - with a slight stubbed tail and hunch in its back. It had many undivided head and lip scales and wasn't properly pigmented. It was also was born unattached to a yolk sac but began trying to eat (my fingers) right at birth. Here s/he is two days after birth on July 6:

Well here's Quasi now at approximately 250 grams and doing great. The hunch in the back, stubbed tail and undivided scales are all still there, but this skink is a total chow hound, growing, healthy, and vigorous.

Amazing how resilient these guys can be.

I just adore Quasi and what a little fighter! He's growing up to be a gorgeous northern and what a great story of survival. I remember when he was born and how just amazed you were and how doubtful about his future. He couldn't have been born into better hands though and it shows in how great he looks today. I see a long time friendship between you two for years and years to come.

The slight stubbed tail and missing yolk remind me quite a bit of my msingle baby merauke born a few days ago. She doesn't have the undevided scales and was only a little bit smaller then an average merauke babe but the stub tail and missing yolk do make me wonder if it was premature a little too.

In any case, so good to see how well Quasi is doing! I just love that skink. :)

I'm so glad you helped him fight to survive where many would have euthanized. Very cool skink. he is just further proof of the hardiness of these animals.
