Postby SmaugTheBluey » Sun Feb 08, 2015 12:15 am

He dropped his first ( to my knowledge ) sperm plug! He's a couple days shy of around 11 months old and its kind of exciting to finally know his gender. Thanks, have a good day

At what age do they start dropping them? A friend of mine has an 8 or 9 month old Northern that I swear is already leaving them around the cage!

I've had mine for 7 years so I'm going to guess it's a girl. Still waiting on those sperm plugs to drop....

The vet said her calcium is fairly high which is normally an indication of a female as well....Also she can be a huge *checkerboard at times, which is a fair indication.

I too would be curious to know roughly what age they start dropping them if they are males, my little guy is only a month old so a long way of, also do they drop them at any time or only during breeding season?

Cheers, Nicholas.

They can drop them any time of the year but it's much more prevalent around mating season.
My youngest that I've noticed was 7 months old.

@Teacup: Thank you, I'm very excited to finally find out!!! I really thought he was a girl for a couple of months, so this was very surprising!
@splashy07 what Susann said... Lucky for him it was around the cage, my little guy dropped it on my bed lol.
@Ddpotanks that's interesting about the calcium levels ill have to keep that information handy, I'd agree with you that it is a female if its been that long.
@NickBrahz I'm not sure if they can produce them at that age but like Susann said they can be dropped year round
@Susann I admire your knowledge, can't wait till I'm at your level of experience.

Sorry for the late replies, have a good night.
