Blue Tongue Poop

Postby Eidechse » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:49 am

My new to me bluey had 2 droppings that are liquidy, green and smelly. I'm a bit concerned. Is this normal to have dropping such as these?

Definitly NOT normal.

I would scoop it up, trying not to get too much substrate with it, and take it to a vet to check for parasites.

Drat I just tossed it. :( Umm, I haven't been able to get him to eat anything since I got him. His previous owners didn't have a lamp on him so I'm wondering how much of this is still because he wasn't warm enough?

What sort of diet are you feeding the bluey? If the poops are consistently coming out like this every time then taking a sample to the vet for a parasite check would be a good idea but the occasional poop like that isn't anything to be concerned about. Poops are poops. lol. They're never quite the same size, color, or consistency and more often then not are they way they are because of whatever they had last ate. Bananas can give blueys runny poops, as can a lot of other foods.

Well, I got him last tuesday. His previous owners told me that they fed him boiled egg, bannana, and wet dog food etc., no mealworms. I offered him blue berries, bannana, wet dog food, and boiled egg over this past week and he didn't eat anything. Just a few min. ago I finally got him to eat one giant mealworm, yay! :). He had two urates (earlier this week) and two green slush poops (yesterday and today). He is drinking water and is active. Unfortuately my exotic vet moved out of state so I have to find a new one. Here is a video of him yesterday before I got all of his shed off.

What a gorgeous northern! Lots of boiled eggs and bananas can definitely be a combo to produce lots of runny, stinky poops. Keep an eye on the next few poops and cut out the eggs and banana for now. They're both good occasional treats but not ideal for part of every feeding.

Regardless of species parasites and/or their eggs found in the poop are all the same :) so a specialist vet is not needed, if it comes back positive then giving the CORRECT medicine and dosage might require a specialist but it isn't too hard to find the info in the Merck Exotics Manual

Eggs!!!! Mine had eggs and twice her pooped looked like this and smelled stonger. I would say lay off eggs if you are still having an issue and in 2 to 3 days if it is eggs that were causing this , the poops will look normal. I tried raw and hard boiled egg and will not give my girl those for a while.

Thanks all. He hasn't pooped again yet but today he got a meal of mostly lettuce greens and some non-sweetened applesauce (so no bannanas or boiled eggs right now) and I'll see how he does. By the way DianaBlueTongue - your skink is very pretty too. :)

I'm not sure if this has been pointed out, but there is a sperm plug in that poo.

Oh, I was wondering what that was. Is that okay? I've never researched that topic.
