Merauke hibernation habits?

So my Merauke BTS has not been coming out or eating as often as he did when it was warmer outside. I keep my apartment at about the same temperatures all year round, but it definitely is cooler during the winter no matter what I set my apartments thermostat at. Is this normal? I am not worried about him. I just wanted to make sure all is well. I have to do something about his nails. They are killing my arms. My BTS never wants to chill out when he is taken out of his enclosure. He wants to explore. lol I have to be honest, I am not thrilled at the idea of trimming his nails. What concerns me is how small his nails are since he is not yet full grown. Any suggestions? I know I have asked about this before, but it is becoming a problem and I want to make sure I do not hurt the little guy. =0)

During the winter they go into Brumation which is a type of hibernation reptiles go through, just keep putting out water and food like normal so when he gets hungry and thirsty he has access to it. as for the nails, do you have any rocks or pavers or anything in his enclosure or where he hangs out, because walking on the roughish surface of those helps to keep the nails not as sharp.

Totally normal.
Meraukes (as well as the other gigas species/subspecies) actually do not go into full brumation, rather they aestivate which means they just sleep more and eat less; some of them don't even do that, but just carry on like normal.

OK, I was not very worried, but I wanted to make sure. The only surface he has is his cave rock hide. His new enclosure will DEFINITLY have some kind of tile in it.
