Jaxom updates! + question about mouth

I cleaned Jaxom's terrarium today. He was much calmer this time than any other times I've had to pick him up. He readily eats from my hands now, and comes out of hiding when I open the terrarium (he's usually expecting food) unless he's sleeping. Handling still isn't his favourite thing, but we're definitely making progress. I plan on handling him daily or close to daily, for short periods of time from now on, because I want to be able to pick him up when I need to (ex: file his nails, make sure shed isn't stuck, put him in a container if I want to feed him live insects etc.), without him being stressed and figity.
I plan on getting him some slate tile for him to bask on that will file his nails because they are really long, but there's no way I could get him calm enough for me to clip or file them myself. Dose anyone know where I could get slate? I live in Canada if that helps. On another note, Jaxom is getting HUGE. He is growing unbelievablely fast!

Another question: He has this stuff on the sides of his mouth. I don't know what it is. I'll try to put some pictures up, but its been there for a couple days maybe, I'm not sure how long. Could it be stuck shed or food? He is a very messy eater, and often ends up with food on his face. Is it mouth rot or something serious?

I can't help much with the mouth issue.. Though I'm sure once you get photos up it will be easier for others to give some advice.

However.. As for the slate. Have you looked in your local pet stores? I know I order bulk slate for my job and I'm sure other places can too. Even if they don't have it, ask if they can special order some. Yard/Garden stores may have some as well.
