Wild Blue tongue

So things are heating up here in Canberra Australia, I live in a rural area out of town so I'm starting to see a LOT of shingle backs run over by cars on the highway , however played my part yesterday and rescued a big Bluey off the road and WOW!! that's where you really see the difference between wild and captive bred. My blueys get a bit hissy if you surprise them but this guy I picked up off the middle of the highway put on the full show, doubled his body width, full blue tongue display and very enthusiastic attempts to bite me. I put him in the long grass beside the road, hopefully he stays off the road in the future!!

Lots of "squishies" on the road around here in Bendigo this year - Easterns and Shingleback. Ive rescued a number of Easterns off the road and released them into nearbye reserves, creeklines etc. Even watched as two people swerved to run one of them over before I could catch it (which I eventually did and let it go nearbye).

They don't take too kindly to being captured initially but settle down in a minute or two, once they realize that I'm not trying to eat them.

Oh my god! The one they almost ran over is gorgeous! I'm so glad you saved that gorgeous animal!! And for saving them in general

Its horrible when it happens hey, at least these guys move slowly so you have a chance to rescue them. I ran over a beardie the other day it bolted under my tyre when I was doing 110kms an hour. I was devastated.

I live in an area pretty heavily populated with huge black timber rattlesnakes and black bear. I see them both hit on the side of the road all the time. I've even hit a few myself by accident, never a fun thing to have happen The white tail deer are the worst for it, they have a habit of running into the sides of you car. As much as I would just adore having blueys living in the wild here I'm kinda thankful I don't. I don't think I could handle seeing one squished on the road.

I think of it the other way around.

If you aren't seeing road kill in areas where they should inhabit, then there's something 'sick' going on in that population.
Where I live, growing up I remember road kill blueys as very common sight. But in the last decade, I have seen very few here.

Just to bring the mood up.. We witnesses a wild pair of blueys making bluey love on our driveway the other week.maybe we'll see babies!
