Blue tongue eating clay??
soooo.. I just had my blue tongues out for a 'play' in an enclosed garden bed, which is mostly dirt with lumps of clay and a few plants. One of my BTSs 'Lulu' raced around and then got stuck into chunks of clay?? biting them hungrily, and got a big mouthful, which I assume disintegrated in her mouth as she didn't seem to have trouble swallowing it. Is this normal behaviour?? Good or harmful?

Re: Blue tongue eating clay??
It is possible there was dried slug or snail slime on the clay which caused the feeding frenzy - my skink mouths anything with this scent on it but has experience with eating snails and spits out rocks, twigs, leaves etc... that aren't real snails

Re: Blue tongue eating clay??
Some animals like piglets deliberately injest soil as a means of extracting iron and other elements. Blueys in the wild inadvertently eat sticks, soil, stones with their meals. Possible that the bluey feels that it needs something.
If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. M. Andretti
