I feel like the scales around Chai's mouth are just being stubborn and not shedding properly, but I wanted to show this just in case maybe it looks like something else to more experienced owners.
It's like this on both sides of her mouth. She doesn't seem bothered when I touch it, and I tried to pick at the scales a little bit to see if they'd come loose, but I didn't want to try too hard and hurt her.
Stuck shed, or something else?

Re: Stuck shed, or something else?
Its normal. She probably bit down on something and damaged the scales. It should clear up after a couple sheds.

Re: Stuck shed, or something else?
It's something that I have noticed that happens to skinks. It happens to both sides of their mouth straight across from each other. I have no idea why this happens or what it is. I am sure someone must know what it is and what causes it. Nothing to be alarmed about though. Sometimes on the top part of their lip on the inside they get a little puss or some type of something. I gently scrape the substance out with really pointy tweezers and usually a day or two later it's back to normal.

I'm thinking part of this was stuck shed, because the day after I posted this the right side of Chai's mouth looked fine and normal, while the left side is still a little odd. So stuck shed/damaged scales from maybe chomping something in her cage.

I had exactly the same thing happen with Vegas. It was stuck shed, and looked identical. His did not come off easily, but was remedied by rubbing a wet q-tip over the affected area.

I saw something similar on Peaches when I first brought her home at 2 months old. I kept an eye on the area and, as she grew, it evened out.
