Indonesian Questions (temperament, sex, etc)

I just recently became the owner of a WC Indonesian. S/he is very defensive, hissing loudly and "whipping" but not attempting to bite or even escape when picked up. I've read that most Indos are like this but I was wondering if they eventually calm down. This one has been sitting in my local reptile shop for months now and used to lunge and bite but they interacted with him daily and now it's just hissing and half-arsed whipping. S/he's already eaten for me so that's reassuring.
Also, how can I determine the sex of it? I understand it's not easy in BTS's. Here are some photos, I don't think they will be helpful but who knows. You guys are the experts lol
