what is this? Vomit?

Postby ReptileLover567 » Mon Sep 08, 2014 4:35 pm

I have found an odd slimy greyish substance in Jaxoms terrarium twice now. Is it poop? Is it vomit? Dose anyone know? Is my baby sick? What do I do.

Might be a sperm plug. Uncertain at what males start dropping these.

Here's a better picture. I don't think its a sperm plug. Please help! I'm really worried. :(

If you're very worried, you can always scoop up the little puddle with a spoon and put it in a baggie, and take that to the vet to see if they can determine what it is. A quick look under a microscope would probably tell them whether or not it's sperm.

From the pictures, it appears to be poop. Diet changes, some foods, and general life stresses can change what poop looks like sometimes (eg: egg/banana often make really runny poops). I know you haven't had him long, but what is he eating so far?

Ideally poop should be a brown log with a white urate and some water around. Keep an eye on his poops for the next little while and see if it returns to normal.

I hope it was poop. So far he has just had some scrambled egg, and a little bit of canned chicken (I wanted to use fresh ckicken, but canned was quicker. I later read on the care sheet that canned meat isn't that good for them) . Maybe it was the egg? That was a while ago though, and he was having normal poops. Maybe it was the chicken?

I would tend to blame the egg, but really there's no way to know what caused it unless it happens again next time you feed the same things. There are a few members on here who know way more about poop/urates and what the likely cause is of each type of strange bathroom-occurance. Hopefully they catch this thread and comment. If it continues to look like this, please let me know. But try not to worry about it for now; poop happens :)
