My terrarium, homemade hides, and some pictures of my buddys

Postby Elsiemoomin » Sat Aug 09, 2014 6:38 pm

Here are some pictures of my terrarium (in big mode, i'll put some pictures up of it divided in my next post).
The native ferns just come from around my section, I have to replace them every 3-4 days. They absolutely love scurrying around amongst them. I have a little rock villa I made in there, which neither of them seem to like (I made three of them which I don't bother having in there as they just get neglected) they will visit the small one occasionally but never use it as a hide. The big structure of rocks contains 4-5 little hides amongst it, and is the basking area when it the enclosure is fully opened. When it is divided I just move a few over to set up a basking spot + at the other end. This seems to be their favourite hide during the day, unless they're behind the ferns.

At night they usually hide under the aspen amongst the rocks or in a pillow case each which I put in for them. They seem to love having them in there in the day too, but I took them out for the photos.

Now as its winter here, I feel like they might be trying to brumate? If I don't uncover them in the morning, they will just hide all day. But if I wake them up and put them out to bask, as soon as they heat up they are extremely active, they're always wandering around and they eat everyday. Should I stop waking them up and just leave them to it? I feel like they'll die if I do haha! They're so little.

The last day or two Tannis hasn't been very interested eating the food placed in front of him, so I tried to hand feed him and it worked a treat! They seem to eat more if I feed them from my fingers, maybe they think its alive :P

Here are some pictures of my open terrarium. Image

Wow! That looks really awesome! And huge! Your bluey is adorable, too!

Seeing this sort of thing makes me really want to try my hand at building my own custom setup. :D
