First Time Skink Owner- Any Tips

I am finally going to be getting a Blue Tongue Skink ( I've wanted one since third grade) I'll start buying everything as soon as I have enough money, which I'm hoping won't take too long. I estimated that its going to cost about $500 including everything, but I'm hoping to get most of it off Kijiji, so it might be less. Do any seasoned skink owners/experts have any tips or advice for first timers?

I'm not an expert, but I got my first skink in about May and from what I've heard from other new owners if you're getting a new baby they have the tendency to not wont to come out and stay in the hides. This scared me so much when my skink (Darwin) did this. As they grow though, they grow out of it. And they grow really really fast.

Thanks for the info! :D how long did it take for your skink to be comfortable in its new home? I've heard won't really eat or poop for the first couple days.
