Names: Your opinion!

Postby NH93 » Mon Jun 23, 2014 1:41 pm

Hi everyone :)

I have not been posting much here (unfortunately don't have anything really to contribute as I don't yet have my BTS), but have been reading!
I am about ready for my skink -- although I am a bit lost/stuck with the vitamin supplements needed, so while I'm on that note, any recommendations?
But the real reason for this thread is, I have a bunch of name ideas and I'd love some input! I like unique names, and I have a small list going right now. I thought I'd be original (not) and choose a type of blue (colour) as a name. They are as follows:

- Azure
- Beryl
- Bondi
- Capri
- Duke
- Phthalo

(The next two are names not colour-related, but I just like them anyway!)

- Andee
- Cedric

I am not fussy about whether the names are more masculine or feminine sounding, because frankly, it doesn't matter. "Girls" names for males are completely acceptable, and "boys" names for females are as well! Especially since I will be getting an unsexed baby skink.

I would love your feedback, or even if you have any names of your own you'd like to throw at me. :D
Thank you!! Much appreciated.

As far as supplimentation, it's actually pretty easy. Any calcium with vitamin D will work. Some people prefer powder, others liquid, but they are all about the same. I give reptile vitamins to my babies but discontinue using them once I get them going on their different veggies.

I'm note sure why, but the name Capri really appeals to me. Azure and Bondi also sound cool to me.

I use a calcium+D3 supplement every other meal, and a multivitamin about every 4 meals.

Hi! I don't really use supplements with my BTS but I do with my PTS. I use exclusively Rephasy supplements with all my reptiles. They are the best I have found and you can get them online or at just about any reptile expo.

As far as names go, I have a tarantula named Azure (Full name: Azure the 7 legged Wonder Spider) so I'm kind of partial to that name. Although I think I agree with Fatal on Capri. It is awesome and original. I have two blue tongues, Coomassie (blue molecular biology stain) and Indigo (blue fiber dye) so I'm partial to the (original) blue names.

Thank you for your replies! (And for the info on vitamins + supplements! I was a bit lost, so I really appreciate the help there too!)

I love the unique names, and wanted to stay away from names that sounded "close" to my snake's names: Sydney and Beau. That sounds really silly, I know. I am picky :P
I think my favourites are Azure and Beryl. But my partner really likes Cedric... oh boy. Maybe I'll just have to get more skinks to fill the names! ;)

Thanks again, and looking forward to more opinions.
Cheers!

I just like the idea of having to pronounce the "Phth" consonant cluster every time you talk about it. :P and "Phthalo' is also and interesting name that would definetely start some conversations on its own. Personally, I like to name reptiles after celestial bodies, my bluey was named Ganymede after the Galilean moon, but I really like Phthalo. Runner up: Beryl
