New skink- MBD or ???

Postby Ellen » Tue Jun 03, 2014 7:39 am

skink.jpg

Hi- I posted a few days ago about a skink I purchased (rescued) and was wondering if it had MBD. I had several helpful responses (thank you!) some of them suggesting that the concave look to its back might be the result of trying to climb the side of the cage when it was young. I have attached a photo as suggested. I hope it goes through as I have not done this before. Anyway, here is a pic. It is on a slanted pillow so it looks a bit more exaggerated than on a flat surface.

The only way to get a definitive answer on whether it's MBD or not it to have it seen by a vet. I took in a rescue about 4 months back and she had a very prominent dent in her back that has almost disappeared with proper diet and better care but she was seen by a vet and I was told that it wasn't MBD and was from sitting up the side of her tank almost constantly before I got her (I rescued her from a pet shop and remember seeing her almost always sitting like that for the few months she was there before I talked the pet shop owner into giving her to me). Here's some before and after shots, the first was the same night I brought her home and the second a couple weeks ago but the dent in my rescues back is indicative of what caused it and how most skinks with this injury appear, yours looks quite a bit different and could very well be from mbd but without a vets opinion people here can only guess from a picture. Usually MBD shows up in multiple spots, rubber jaw, kinky tail, strange shaped limbs, if you're skink has other strange shaped body parts then the chances of it being MBD are much higher.
