Babie Meraukes

Postby Hammock » Sat May 31, 2014 5:55 pm

Well, I had just about counted myself out for this season. Today to my surprise I found Marina giving birth to 8 perfect beautiful babies. I can look it all up but she was bred in November and December 2013. Quite a gestation period. All eight came out fully charged and tried to eat everything in sight.

Bella died several days ago. I fully expected her to have a great litter of young-uns. She was an incredible Merauke Blue tongue Skink. She had two very large infertile ova inside (the size of medium hens eggs) that could not be passed. So I was thinking that maybe Dude the male was not fertile and that the three different females that he bred might not be fertile as well. Possibly Bella had a reproduction problem of her own. So Marinas birthing today was exciting.

LJ the really light one is still very large too and healthy so my hope for her is reconfirmed too. She has went through a long gestation period as well.

One of the Northerns has a litter of 11 and they will be three weeks old this coming Wednesday. Two more northerns look like they could go at any time as well.

I made pictures of the babie Meraukes today but have not downloaded as yet. Will get them up. Mike

Wow - congratulations! That's really cool. Really long gestation period, I'm so glad it worked out and the babies are healthy.

Sorry about Bella.

Love the loght thin banded one,but all beautiful, congrats, sorry for your loss with bella,id sau yes it was she was unable to pass the infertile masses, possably even rupturing one causing infection, fingers crossed the 3rd lass is fine, its pretty bad luck what happened to bella, most times they easily pass infertile masses

Great to see a few litters of genuine cbb meraukes popping up more and more each year, good job

Sorry about Bella; she was gorgeous. Congratulations on the healthy babies, though! That one near-patternless one is awesome.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. They are doing great and growing very well. They are already 9-1/4" to 9-3/4". Look and feel like a huge dog tick. I've got three of them photographed and ready to go to new homes, maybe I should put them in the classifieds? They are gentle as can be, no huffing and puffing just about the exact opposite of baby Northerns at this age. Mike
