"Speck"

Postby Ophidiophile » Tue May 27, 2014 5:48 pm

Took a few photos of my weird speckled Kei Island male "Speck" this morning. He's so different from all of my others. Here's just a couple:

That guy looks amazing. I never thought much of Kei Islands until I got to see them in person for the first time this weekend and they are absolutely spectacular skinks they have an awesome glow and shine to them unlike other skinks I have seen.

Thanks all. He came in back in November 2013 with the only shipment of Keis that's hit the US in about 3 years. That shipment also had newborn Keis. Since they produced in November in the Southern Hemisphere, by my calculations they should be breeding there in June or July. Since my 3 adults are probably still on a Southern Hemisphere schedule, just this week I've begun raining on them and raising their humidity to see if I can spur on some breeding next month or so. It's worth a try anyway...

That is a very cool looking skink. For some reason he reminds me of a salamander.

I was not crazy about Keis either until I saw some in person either. Of all the species that I have seen in person, I think Keis may be the ones hardest to depict accurately in pictures. They never look as good in pictures as they do in person.

Jeff, you described it perfectly. It does look like a large salamander.

Dave needs to get rid of it quickly and give it to me.
