BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

So i live in Melbourne and it can get pretty cold in winter here at night, i feel like there's a high chance for the temperature would go below 15c in the tank at night, how could i prevent this from happening? I was considering some form of light but i am unsure what kind i should use.

Your best bet is a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) or a red bulb. You don't want to use visible light at night for blueys because they are diurnal. Those two heat sources don't produce any light that is visible to your skink.

Or an under tank heater, heat tape, or heat cord, to heat from below.

When you say red bulb do you mean UV?

Just heating bulb...red just make it darker that won't bother the sleeping skink

Most reptiles, including blueys are believed to be unable to see red light at all. Red light is invisible to them, so you can use it for heat without the side affects of giving them visible light at night.

For what it is worth, I keep my mercury vapor bulb and my red light on 12 hour timers and I adjust for sunrise and sunset every other week. Fred sleeps peacefully at night with the red bulb and it keeps his terrarium at proper temps at night.

Overhead radiant heat panels work well for this too. I set them on a thermostat and they maintain ambient day and night with no risk of burning my animals.

Yep they are great for that tom,and have a larger surface area and can be set up to make a nice gentle nite warmth/back ground temps

I have this "moonlight" lamp for a new skink (If I ever get one )

Would this type of night light bother them? I would only use it in the winter since DC can get cold.
