Update on the Terrarium

Postby Noah H. » Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:22 pm

Hello everyone! As promised, here are a few pics of my terrarium setup. It's still incomplete (I still need water/food bowls, a cool hide, and some other decorations), but I think it's turning out great!

Here's a wide shot of the tank, including the stand and light setup.

A close up shot of the right side of the tank. I've got the basking area and hot hide set up, as well as a few decorations in the middle.

I'll make sure to update when I have everything set up.

It looks like things are coming together. I would recommend putting the log hide on the cool end of the enclosure though.

Got it. Perhaps a rock hide would be better for the hot side?

It is generally recommended that the hot end be for basking only. In a larger enclosure you could have multiple hides, but I might just stick with one on the cool end. You could put some fake plants in the corner on the cool end too and they might use that as well. One of mine loves burrowing in the fake plants.

I see no reason to move the log - another hide on the other end might be nice. Those half logs often double as a hide and basking spot on the warm end, so those are perfect. I'd always recommend having hides on both end; I've never seen it recommended that the warm end be for basking ONLY. You want them to be able to thermoregulate but also feel safe and be able to hide at the safe time, so having hides at both ends allows for that.

I agree. I planned on adding a second hide for the cool end, I just haven't found one I liked yet.

Looks great so far! I agree about the hides, I have one in the cool side, one in the middle, and my basking spot is also a hide. Royal uses all three, and the rock hide is his favorite.
