BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hello all. I've been lurking for a couple of years and finally decided to join in. I've been keeping all sorts of reptiles since I was a little boy in the 70's. I walked right by many Blue Tongue Skinks for years before I finally "discovered" them about three years ago. Jeff sent me my first one in summer of 2011. A really nice Northern baby. Even after all my years of messin' with lizards, snakes and tortoises, that little BTS was magical to me. It behaved in ways that most reptiles don't. I'm forever hooked, and Jeff has patiently and helpfully answered about a million questions from me. For anyone here who doesn't realize it, we are all lucky to have Jeff around.

It has been great fun reading and learning about all the different types of Blue Tongues, and this site has been an invaluable learning tool.

I bought two more young ones this year, and my original from Jeff is currently being cooled for winter along with two other Northern adults that belong to friends. So I own three, one adult and two juveniles, and I've borrowed a couple of additional adults from friends for breeding. All three adults are still unsexed, but I will solve that problem in another few weeks. One of the three adults is over 20 years old and has been with a friend all that time. He really didn't even know the significance of this. Really hoping to breed that one especially and get babies.

My two recently purchased juveniles were purchased through Doug at Deerfern Farms. I know Doug from the tortoise world and he told me these two juveniles were bred in Florida by a friend of his. Anyone know if that person is a member here?

Welcome Tom! If you are the Tom from the Tortoise Forum thank you for all you do. You are the one that basically changed the way people raise their tortoise from hot and dry to hot and humid leading to smooth shells. You were the one that got me into Blue Tongues and led me to Jeff. Welcome to the site and I look forward to seeing some pics of your Blue Tongues and your G.p.p's on this site and to you sharing your knowledge with all of us here.

This is a recent, although poorly lit, photo of my adult that I got from Jeff. It doesn't show his/her color very well.

And my two recently acquired juveniles:

As here is the 20+ year old owned by my friend. He has an iridescent pink colored belly. I tried to take a pic, but it doesn't show very well. We know nothing about the origins of this one.

The last two pics you posted are my favorites! You don't see many skinks that look as good as those two in the U.S.
