That is the first video I have ever seen of them in the wild.. and it gives a pretty good idea on how they live, too!

How does a 3 second glimpse of a skink in someone's hand give any idea on how they live?

Funny that you mention that, El Lobo. In the bluey bible, it doesn't show that they live there, but in the video they found one on the island.. very interesting.

Don't you also believe they inhabit terrain similar to Northerns in Australia?

So, which part of northern Australia looks like that image?

James Wilson stated that the IJ's live in terrain a lot like in northern Australia... not Indonesians. I haven't looked much into it, so I took his word for it. I haven't tried to research any pictures of northern Australia.

Brian at BHB Reptiles did a video in Australia looking for death adders, and it looked a lot like this. Not exactly sure where he was, though.

Finding one lizard in one area doesnt show how the species lives,most have ranges spanning many differing micro climates,yes the odd specimen is found in rainforest,but a heck of alot have been found well away from that micro habitat in open farming areas ect as well,some are quite adaptable in that sense

A bit off topic , but bear with me.

Fifteen years ago I knew a young enthusiastic keen herper who was just all over forums, chat rooms, yahoo groups etc... Came across like a bit of a brat, know all, holier than thou type. As being very young, he was very annoying to the more seasoned keeper. At the time, I recall having a conversation about this bloke with a professional herpetologist and he said," Give him time, this fella has the potential to be anything."

Fast forward to now, this same guy is now doing his PhD in venom research after going on a long journey in university education I.e. He has completed a fair few disciplines at university over the years.

What I am trying to say is, yes Dakota is over enthusiastic on all thing blue tongue related, but I'm seeing similarities with this other guy I know.

Now Dakota, be encouraged by my post , but don't let it get to your head. One and half seconds in that clip is drawing a long bow.

So I'm taking you guys don't find that video that exciting.. I about flew out of my chair when I seen it!! That is a wonderful story, Dave. I have disregarded being an exotic vet to pursue my dream in studying Tiliqua in the wild, so I am going to be an ecologist or maybe just a herpetologist, not exactly sure, yet. I would like to focus my study to the ssp. that are least studied.. and that includes Tiliqua gigas, which is my favorite part! I'm also interested in studying the Rottnest Island Shingleback, for whatever reasons.

Every time I go on and on and on and on about them to my father, he always tells me how proud he is of me. He keeps telling me I'm going to be the world's leading Tiliqua expert when I grow up. I do hope that will happen someday. Everyone is so shocked that at such a young age, I have such a specific group of reptiles I would like to study, that isn't the stereotypical Leopard Gecko and Bearded Dragon! I also believe that me studying them non-stop has raised my reading level to where I scored perfect on the test. Before I really found out that Tiliqua were my life, I was always just a tad bit over average reading-wise.

I do wish to visit North Maluku, Papua New Guinea, and West Papua soon. I have talked to my family about it, and they could go to vacation, I would go to look for Tiliqua! This year we are going to Dominican of Republic, so maybe next vacation we will go where I want to.

ETA: I even have two picture of BTS on my binder. One side is of Ema, and the other side is the drawing of Maxx I did.. the only responses I get is saying, "Cool snake!".

Nothing wrong with some youthful enthusiasm

Just one point about the bluey bible that seems to get lost frequently. The ranges described for the Indonesian species' are clearly stated as where these animals have been confirmed to live at the time of its publication. It is made clear that it is almost guaranteed that Tiliqua exist in other areas not shown simply because no one has been there to confirm it yet. The ranges shown are not intended to be final drafts of the natural range of the various species / sub-species, simply the latest confirmed data available.

A good case point of that jeff,south of melb where i live alot of bluetongue range maps only list blotcheds as occuring here,easterns on the range maps in alot of books seem to be from melbourne north east and west,living extreme soutj of melb for over 30 years ive seen a heck of alot of bluetongues,at least 80 percent of them being easterns,probably due to them being more common in suburbia

Thats coming from australia where they are commonly encountered,yet range maps are often left begging in accuracy

Reptiles don't read books Richard, how are they supposed to know that they are outside of their accepted distribution.
