BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

4th day on the trott of 40 plus degree days here,last nights over nite low was 33 degrees celcius,the days arent usually that warm,lol,thank god theres a change this evening,back to low 20s over the week end

Anyways been keeping close eye on lizards during this hot spell,nutty gravid females still harrassing smaller gravid eastern female,she even charged at a giant landmullet

This is normal quiet time of year for babies here but have a few that might fill this gap,its normal eastern season jan/feb here,so any time for them,but i believe they bred late so may be a feb dropping time,but who knows,my female western has finally had her first shed since last season and is looking really good

The holdback blotchies that were indoors and seem to have mated,the females have recently shed to and looking very close,which is very early for them,though being indoors till close to christmas they did mate early

Not sure what the stumpies will do this season,didnt witness mating but the old line female in particular has bulked right up so a maybe there to

Its a guessing game who will go first,my moneys on the young blotcheds or the western,usually someone else suprises me though

Its nice to be excited at this time of year for a change

Richard, you should see Virginia..... I thought she looked gravid last time.. but now.. WOW. It is a good feeling that she is giving both gravid signs and looking it!! Even my father says she is a gravid, and last time he kept saying she wasn't. I'm switching her on paper towel in a few weeks since I'm not home I was.

Can't wait to see if you have more birthings.

Richard, sounds promising! Can't wait to start seeing pictures of the bubs. You guys have been having crazy heat lately! Hope you get stumpie babies as well.

Been lucky here kat,this is our first real hot patch of the year,happens to be a record of consecutive days over 41 degrees for melbourne though,up until now was the odd 38 degree day followed by a week of coolness,lol

Looking forward to 23 again tomoz,easier to get pics when they arent hiding in the shade,ive got a rug over middle of outdoor cage to offer more shade,there supprisingly handling the heat quite well,44 degrees again today

I can handle the heat,well aircon helps there,lol,i just stress about reptiles in an uninsulated tin shed,must get around to insulating it,plus the joys of living in melb,the colds normally allways just around the corner

Geraldton wa westerns mark,that pic was taken in the darkbecause of heat wave,females a bit darker than male,more silvery with brown banding,1st gen from wild caughts,bred by occi

Same female aspera pic taken on 15 of december,shes bulked up a fair bit in just over a month
This line of aspera are a small type,and dont seem to bulk out like other aspera,when there gravid they just seem to tighten up and look awkward,stretched skin look,her mum was a shocker for it,she had slugs last season and picked up an infection in her front leg,probably from males,went into brumation pretty light so wasnt expecting anything,im still not expecting but does look promising,shes bigger now than last season has the awkward walk now like she will roll over,so see what happens i guess

How are the Vic Alpines going?

Vic alpines are still early days but looking really good,the 2 first timers from last season are going again plus another 2 first timers at least as well,and the old girls looking likely to,im thinking mid march for those ones as breeding started first week of december

The vic alpine lass in with these guys is fatter again and puffing like mad,ill grab a pic next time i go check on them,she was mated by one of 2 young male bluemountains forms as the male vic alpine from her litter is still tiny

It just seems so weird to me that you guys have so many species of cool lizards there. We have quite a few reptiles here, but very few of them are as cool as the stuff you guys have everywhere.

Jeff ,us aussies think that of whats available over there,we couldnt even sell a kidney to get some of that stuff,lol,thankfully wedont get those fugly gigases here though
